TEXAS
HOLDEM STARTING HANDS 3 Having considered
how best to play your custom poker chip stack from
an early position, we will now move on to consider
the middle position.
3. Middle Position Unsuited
You can play a few more poker starting hands from
this position as you have a positional advantage over
those poker players sitting in early position. You
must use your custom poker chip stacks to raise with
the following poker hands (in addition to the poker
starting hands we told you to raise with in the first
page):
- Ace with a Jack (only raise with your custom
poker chip stack if you are the first poker player
to put in a raise. Otherwise, we suggest you limp
in as before)
- Ace with a 10 (similar advice, only raise if you
are the first one in the pot, otherwise limp).
- King with a Queen.
- Pair of 9s, 8s, 7s and 6s. Once again, only use
your custom poker chip stack to put in a raise if
no other poker player has acted in this way before
you. Otherwise, limp in with these smaller pairs.
So when should you limp in with your custom poker
chip stack? In addition to the information on page
one and two of this guide, we suggest that you do
not limp into the pot with any poker hands additional
to those listed before. Essentially, the limping strategy
for middle position unsuited is the same as for early
position suited (if you want to get technical!). Follow
this advice and your custom poker chip stack will
be as safe as it can be.
All other cards must simply be folded. A good poker
player should be folding about five out of every six
poker hands so don’t worry. You will have ample
opportunity to maximise the size of your custom poker
chip stack. When you are being dealt poor poker hands
and you are out of position, there is nothing you
can do but sit back and wait for a better starting
poker hand (or wait until you get the dealer button!).
At least then you aren’t losing a percentage
of your custom poker chip stack when you are dealt
poor poker hands or when you are out of position.
You wouldn’t want to have such a small custom
poker chip stack that when you get great cards and/or
positioning, you can only win a small custom poker
chip pot!
