STRATEGY FOR LIMIT TEXAS HOLDEM 3
3. Turn Pot-Limit Texas Holdem Strategy
So we have discussed how to play your custom poker
chip set pre-flop and post-flop. Now we must consider
how to gamble at the turn. This is especially important
as the limit usually doubles at this point in the
poker hand (meaning that poker players can bet double
as much of their custom poker chip stack). This suits
you if you are ahead in the pot and have hit, for
example top pair and have bet it strongly on the flop.
But if you are behind in the custom poker chip pot,
you could potentially lose a large percentage of your
custom poker chip set. Nobody wants to go home a loser!
If some other poker player check-raises you, it is
advisable that you assume that they have your top
pair well and truly beaten. They will usually have
either a set or two pair at least. Get out now and
save your custom poker chip set for another betting
and gambling round of pot-limit Texas Holdem. Again,
it depends on the type of poker player you are up
against. Remember Dave Scharf’s Player Classification?
If you are up against a ‘Rock’ you should
probably muck your poker hand as he/she only plays
the strongest of poker hands. If you are up against
a ‘maniac’ or ‘screaming fish’
you should probably continue to build up the pressure
with your custom poker chip stack. If there are only
two of you at the poker table (in the latter stages
of a poker tournament), you should probably continue
to build up the pressure on the turn, continually
raising with your custom poker chip set.
Too many poker players we see will bet and gamble
their custom poker chip set well on the flop, but
if anyone calls them, they will become timid on the
turn and won’t bet and gamble their custom poker
chip set another time. This is poor play and you must
continue to show strength on the turn unless it is
extremely obvious that another poker player has the
nuts at that point in the poker hand. Even if the
turn card worries you, if you bet it it will worry
your poker opponent that extra bit more! Use your
custom poker chip set wisely but don’t freeze
up on the turn or you will never come away a winner.
