POKER TELLS
Have you ever seen a poker player bet a personalized
poker chip or two whilst telling the poker table a
story? General chit-chat or a useful piece of information
you can take to the bank? You guessed it. If the poker
player puts some of his personalized poker chip stack
into the middle and shrugs, comments or just generally
tells a story, you can be sure this player is not
at all uncertain about the strength of his poker hand.
In fact, he knows he will win a personalized poker
chip or two and is trying to deceive the other players
as to the true strength of the poker hand.
Maybe you hear them forcing a sigh? Or they say something
like, ‘Oh, I may as well…’ Never
be fooled if you want to retain your personalized
poker chip stack for yourself. Sometimes this poker
tell is easy to spot as the poker player is consciously
making an effort to give off this sort of body language.
However, if it is slightly too easy to spot, hold
your personalized poker chip stack back for a second
and think about whether the poker player is double-bluffing
and is in fact an extremely strong player in disguise!
However, more often than not, this sort of poker
tell is an unconscious action by the poker player
exhibiting the poker tell at the poker table. This
is obviously much harder to spot in a game of poker.
The poker player may not be intending to deceive but
it is a natural human instinct to act weak when strong
and vice versa. To save and win a personalized poker
chip or two you must be very cautious and on the lookout
at all stages for the subconscious poker tells.
Are you giving off these sorts of poker tells either
consciously or subconsciously? Everyone does give
off some sort of vibe and often lose a percentage
of their personalized poker chip stack as a result.
For this reason, many poker players choose to wear
sunglasses, baseball caps (or cowboy hats if you are
Doyle Brunson!) or hoodies (like the Unibomber!).
They also try to get into a routine where they bet
with the same hand each time, where they wait the
same amount of time each time after looking at their
cards before reaching for their personalized poker
chip stack and the way they call or raise.
