DAVE SCHARF’S PLAYER CLASSIFICATION 6
6. The Fox
Finally we have reached the classification that all
us poker players are aiming for! Foxes know exactly
how to play and always maximise the amount of personalized
poker chips they win. They have absolute knowledge
of hand value, pot odds etc. but they know exactly
how to classify other poker players at the poker table.
They know how they will play their personalized poker
chips from each position at the table. They can tell
what strength cards you will play and how you play
aces from early position for example. They can tell
when you are check-raising! Once you have become a
fox, personalized poker chips will come flooding in!
The fox never makes mistakes unlike the other poker
player types you will come up against. For this reason,
you must be especially careful with your personalized
poker chips when you come up against a fox. If you
see a poker player making completely different play
depending on their position at the poker table, you
can gamble a lot of personalized poker chips on the
fact that they are a fox. Positioning is so important
in the game of poker, especially Texas Holdem (many
poker players do not understand this). If you are
finding it hard to classify a poker player at the
poker table, if you sometimes think they are a rock
and sometimes they portray themselves as a maniac,
keep your personalized poker chips safe as they are
probably a fox!
You can tell a fox if they raise and then fold to
a re-raise of personalized poker chips in the same
betting and gambling round. They don’t only
think about the poker hand they hold, they also think
about what the other poker players in the pot are
doing. They consider pot odds, hand odds, whether
a bluff may succeed in that particular instance etc.
Our advice is very simple. Don’t try to outwit
a fox, try to be a fox! Even if you are a fox, you
may as well extract as many personalized poker chips
from those less qualified poker players than you.
If a fox sits at your table, try to vary the way you
are playing your gambling game of poker much more
than if you were sitting amongst a load of screaming
fish. You need to make some unexpected moves and bets
with your personalized poker chips. Try bluffing unexpectedly
to keep the fox off guard, flashing a card as if by
accident to provide imperfect information. As soon
as your poker play becomes too predictable, the fox
will snatch your personalized poker chips from you
very fast.
