How to play an Ace-Nine or less
We have already seen the strength of two aces down
to ace-ten but once the kicker falls below a ten we
tend to call the hand ‘any ace’. Most
poker players love to bet and chase (losing large
quantities of custom poker chips along the way) with
an ace, regardless of the strength of the kicker.
Sorry if this piece of advice is going to break the
habit of a lifetime but an ace with a nine or lower
is a weak set of cards and will lose you custom poker
chips unless you play it sparingly.
If you notice other poker players in your game gambling
large amount of custom poker chips with these sorts
of hole cards, although it may pay off for them once
in a while, these are the sorts of poker players you
want to be up against. These maniacs will lose lots
of custom poker chips to you later in the game if
you hold your nerve.
So when is it advisable to gamble custom poker chips
with any ace? It is probably worth calling with the
minimum amount of custom poker chips from the small
blind if no other poker player has raised custom poker
chips in this poker hand. If you are sitting in the
big blind, you could even call one raise, as long
as the raise comes from a poker player sitting in
late position at the poker table. It is likely that
he/she will raise with less than what they would raise
with from early position. Again, if there are several
limpers in the pot, it may be worth calling with custom
poker chips as you are getting good value for money.
Is it ever worth raising custom poker chips? Yes,
but only if no other poker player at the poker table
has raised and you are on the button. This helps you
to attempt to steal the blinds and increase the size
of your custom poker chip stack with a semi-bluff.
Obviously if the blinds have monster hands you will
be forced to back down and lose your raise of custom
poker chips. Put it down to experience! It is actually
better to have a poker hand like Ace-5 rather than
Ace-7 as there is a straight possibility to increase
your custom poker chip winnings. If your little ace
is suited, what you are really hoping to flop is a
flush or a flush draw.
