Guide to Playing a pair of Twos
I remember watching T.J.Cloutier in a World Series
of Poker Final Poker Table look down at a pair of
ducks when he was first to act in the pot and he just
threw them away without a second thought! He didn’t
waste one custom poker chip on the cards. The commentators
were very surprised given that there were only four
poker players remaining at the table. But such a great
player demonstrates the cardinal principle that you
should never bet custom poker chips on such small
pairs when you are first to act in the pot. You must
be very selective when you are sitting in middle-late
position. If no other poker player has gotten involved
in the pot, you should follow suit and do the same,
saving your custom poker chips for later gambling
rounds.
But if it is a limper’s round and everyone
is getting in to see the flop cheaply, you may want
to call and place the minimum quantity of custom poker
chips on the poker table as although the odds of hitting
a third two are very low, the amount of custom poker
chips you will win if you get lucky is very high!
It may even be worth calling a raise of custom poker
chips if you know there are a lot of callers interested
in the pot. However, this is only a good ploy if you
are in a very late position at the poker table. Usually,
twos are not the poker hand you really want to invest
large amounts of custom poker chips with.
Raising with pocket deuces may be an option but only
in the rare circumstances where most poker players
have dropped out of the hand (preferring to save their
custom poker chips for another gambling round) and
you are sitting round back on the dealer button or
right next to it (but not in the blinds). Or if you
are in the small blind you may be able to steal the
big blind with a large bet of custom poker chips (but
again only if you are the first one to act in the
poker hand).
If you are considering calling a raise of custom
poker chips, you simply must pull out after the flop
hits if you do not make a set. This is the most important
rule about playing deuces and could save you hundreds
of customized poker chips. |
